It was lovely to see the photos and the articles of your illustrious sporting career! Theshika looks a lot like you and he seem to be following in your footsteps too 🙂
Thank for your comment. I am happy many are enjoying those old photographs of mine. They are wondering how I kept these photos carefully for such a long time. I am sure Gian will also take to some sport in time to come.
With love & Regards
Oh, Jesus what a colourful past as a sportsman. You are truly a blessed creation of almighty God. A genuine all-rounder who was devoted in the noble profession and becoming a well respected doctor / surgeon. A Good Samaritan as per our belief.
May I have your permission to share these valuable photos with Angy and many, old Josephians whom I know?
I wish you good health and vigour to carry on uninterrupted. God bless you and your family.
I knew you only as a versatile surgeon. Never thought your were a sportsman in your younger days though your robust build suggested it.
I knew you were a great sportsman It is lovely to see the details of your achievements in various sports. You are not only a master of surgery but a great sportsman too.Marvelous achievements.
We are privileged to have rubbed shoulders with you in medical school. Lovely memories treasure them. The whole nation should be proud of you.
All the best to you and your family
Love and regards

Dear Siva & Nimmi
Thank you very much. Your comment is much appreciated. Yes, we met way back in 1966 and since then we have been friends although far apart. Hope you will enjoy my stories relating to my experiences in and out of hospital as well.
Love & best wishes
The good Lord has blessed you not only in Education but also in Sports. Over the years at St.Jospeh’s ,Med school and in parts of Sri Lanka you did great in both fields. It’s a blessing to so many people who came to know you personally and professionally. Integrity and honesty always pays in the end.
Do carry on your good work as long as you can….God Bless.
Dear Dr. Gamini
From the album it shows what an awesome carrier you have had in the field of sports from Rugby to Soccer to Cricket.
It’s a good example for the younger generation to see these photos and be encouraged to take part in sports and balance life with sports & books simultaneously.
Thank you & god bless you.
Thank you for your comment. I am not a great sportsman, but I always liked to participate, win or Loose. Sports builds character, discipline, fellowship etc, etc…. and therefore the youth should learn to balance sports and studies and not studies and smart phone as what we see today.
I really enjoyed seeing these pictures. They are indeed a super record of your skills as a sportsman. I was also thrilled to see the SJC 1966 Rugby group pic in which I am also present. It certainly brings back nostalgic memories!
Thank you. Yes, both are in the 1966 photo. Undoubtedly one of the best rugger teams of SJC. The memorable days at College !
Great to see those photos, write-ups and comments. Rugger, cricket, football. Even Sir Gary Sobers would have been proud of that record. I still remember a class match when we put up a partnership.
You have been not only a complete sportsman but also a sport and always a friend with a capital F (for 60 years) .
An eminent surgeon like you is an embodiment of ” mens sana in corpore”
Dear Dr. Gamini,
What a combination!
A variety of sports, Medicine, Service to humanity and leadership.
This is a blessing.
Could remember almost all the guys it was the year I lead the basketball team.
Another strength of your life!
Your diving pass (from scrum half to stand-off) reminds me of my old friend the late Gen. Denzil Kobbe!! I hope you write a book.
Lovely pictures. Very nostalgic
Gamini Great in Profession, Sports and Academically
Dr.Goonetilleke you have really made use of your talents in your profession, Sports, Taking care of people in an aged care and donating to some non profitable Organisations. God has blessed you because of your humidity and faith.
Very nostalgic when you think back of the good old days
Gamini you are a talented man! Fantastic
It’s a great story, in a different line of interest!!
Apart from sports you excel as a surgeon
Gamini, you are one in a million!
You are an excellent sportsman who gave yeoman service to Polonnaruwa sports activities especially in promoting leather ball cricket
